Open Access and the Academic Library - Integrating OA into Discovery
As the current academic publishing system becomes increasing unsustainable, open access journal publishing has been lauded as the future of scholarly publishing. Indeed, there are thousands of open access e-journals available. This presentation seeks to discuss the challenges libraries face providing access to this OA content within the context of their discovery systems, its viability as a long term replacement for expensive journals, and methods of selecting OA content and making it available.

Using Inclusive Access as An Affordability Solution
Open Educational Resources can be a great option for providing students with quality, affordability course materials. However, for faculty and staff who are interested in continuing to use the publishing material they know and love, inclusive access offers a low cost option available on the first day of class through a digital delivery for all students. This session will explain what is Inclusive Access, why institutions choose Inclusive Access, how to get started with Inclusive Access.

Z-Degree or bust
Z-Degrees (Zero textbook cost degrees) are one of many goals of an OER program. There are a lot of players involved in having this actually come to fruition. This is Nicolet College's story on how we turned what started out as an organic movement in the Criminal Justice program into the state's first Z-Degree in Criminal Justice program and how it is now helping students in other programs as well.

Open Textbooks, Information Literacy and Learning Assessment
Our information literacy integration focus at UWM Libraries gave us an edge in our early Open Textbook advocacy efforts, especially in advocating for readings that are specifically targeted to learning outcomes and application of knowledge. In turn our Open Textbook advocacy led to deeper partnerships with our faculty, especially around decentralizing information literacy from a single lesson. We will share a set action steps we have taken toward an Open Pedagogy model.

The Curriculum Garden
Using the analogy of a garden, this presentation gives strategies for curriculum design for perennials (content that can be planted once, and then re-used each term), annuals (content that needs annual planting and updating, but remains the stable within each term), and cut flowers (content that is fresh and shows off student work and understanding). By creating content within this framework it becomes easier to maintain a fresh, vibrant, and colorful curriculum for your students.
